St. Marguerite d'Youville Secondary School (2007-Present) Business/Computer Teacher (2013-Present) E-Learning Teacher Cardinal Newman Catholic Elementary School (2007) Special Education Resource Teacher
I feel that my personal philosophy/teaching style as it applies to education and business studies is that learning in the classroom should apply to "real world" experiences so when students graduate from high school, they will be able to apply this knowledge to higher learning or their future occupations. Based on this interpretation, in my teachable area of Business Studies, I feel that the understanding of subject material in this area can be enhanced by giving students hands-on experience by allowing them to use technology such as computers, the Internet and software applications, which will reinforce lectures or assigned reading materials. For example, in order for a student in my BTT Class (Introduction to Information Technology in Business) to learn Microsoft Word, he or she must use the actual application on the computer to fully understand how to complete a Full-Block letter, a memo, a resume, among other documents, which may be listed in a textbook or from another resource. The same would apply to MS PowerPoint or MS Excel also; the students would need to prepare a Slideshow/Prezi or a create budget (for example) to actually understand how the application works. Having the students learn these applications is imperative as it will prepare them well for the real world or post secondary education where many companies and most post secondary institutions need at least a basic working knowledge of how to use them.
I believe that I'm still new to the teaching profession. I do not have any tangible awards or honors. My honors/awards come from the success of my students. When I go to school and teach, my main objective is not to receive an award for myself, but to see my own students succeed both inside and outside of the classroom. If they succeed, I succeed. ;-D
Niagara University '07 -Master of Science in Education (Secondary Education) Athabasca University '05 -Bachelor of Management Sheridan College '01 -Business Administration - Marketing Diploma Humber College '03 -Graphic Design Certificate
My name is Brian Pinto and I have been living in Brampton, Ontario for most of my life. I was born in North York, Ontario and lived the first part of my life in Downsview, Ontario. I am married and have 2 children. So life is quite busy as you can imagine these days. In my spare time I enjoy working out, running, playing soccer and hanging out with my family. I obtained my Marketing Diploma from Sheridan College, and then went on to complete my Bachelor of Management part-time from Athabasca University through Distance Education while I was working for the 407 ETR in account administration. Shortly after, I decided to pursue a Graphic Design Certificate from Humber College. However, I found it difficult to obtain positions in Marketing and Graphic Design and decided to channel my education/experiences into teaching business studies at the high school level. I went to Teacher's College to Niagara University in New York State and officially obtained my teaching license in early 2007. For the first few months of obtaining my license, I supply taught in a couple of elementary and high schools for the DPCDSB. Officially, I have worked at 2 different schools, I started off my teaching career as an LTO at Cardinal Newman Catholic Elementary School in Brampton, Ontario as a Special Education Resource Teacher servicing students from grades 6-8. I was there from April 2007 to June 2007. I was then lucky to obtain a position as an LTO at St. Marguerite d'Youville S.S. (also in Brampton) for the 2007-2008 School Year in the Business Department. The following September I received a permanent position at the school in the same department. I really feel blessed working at this school; the students and staff are great and there many extracurricular activities taking place at the school. Over the last few years or so, I have supervised the following extracurricular events/clubs: DECA (Student Business Organization), Ideaopolis Students Business Competition, The Biz Plan Competition, Summer Company, Soccer, Weight Club (Weight Room), Multicultural Night, South Asian Fusion (to celebrate South Asian Heritage Month), Dance Team (South Asian Dance), The Panther's Den (School Store) and a number of small scale events, which have taken place around the school. Since being in the business department, I have taught the following courses: BTT 1O1, BBI 2O1, BTA 3O1, BDI 3C1, BMI 3C1,BAF 3M1, BAT 4M1, BDV 4C1, BOG 4E, BOH 4M, IDC 3OW and BTX 4C1. I thoroughly enjoy all the courses, but my favourites are BBI 2O1, BTA 3O1 and BDI 3C1. I try to create projects that relate to events that are going on in the school. For example, our school regularly hosts a "Drama Showcase" every semester and my BTA/BTX class creates the Programs in using Microsoft and Adobe Applications. They love to see their work being used in the school; they show a sense of pride in their work. As a teacher, I strive to continue to learn more strategies to help my students and myself in the classroom. I am happy to share with you what I've created and look forward to learning from the other teachers on Teachers Pay Teachers.
