My aim is to stimulate student initiative with publications, techniques, networking that make the process of learning authentic and natural. Teacher as facilitator. The latest 2012 project has been a dozen Shakespeare Playbooks, which greatly expand the text for directors to add their own notes and sketches, stage diagrams for placement of sets, and special sections for the Producer (budget, publicity campaign, designing a playbill), Set Designer, Costumer, Stage Management, plus glossary, chart of entrances and exits for quick reference. "A producer's dream. Just add actors," says Paul Freeman. If you're considering staging Twelfth Night, or Hamlet or ten other Shakespeare plays, the Playbook will help you envision the play your way, keep track of details, coordinate all the elements that go into a production. Most important may be to make the decision whether or not to do the play at all. This format lets you see what's required to assemble a team and do it.
