Beyond the Facts

This is my 5th year teaching. My first year teaching I taught 2nd Grade. Then, I was moved to 1st grade with a focus on teaching reading. After a year, I really wanted a change so I took a leap of faith and moved schools for a position teaching 5th Grade math and science. I taught math and science for a year, and then was asked to teach science and social studies to the entire 5th grade during my fourth year teaching. So I am sure you can see why I was so excited when I was allowed to go back to teaching math and science this year! It was the first time in all my years teaching that I would be teaching a subject and grade level familiar to me!

Although I have taught every subject, my true passion lies in teaching math and science. I have grown so much as an educator each year, but one mentor particularly in my third year teaching made me realize that true mathematical understanding comes from knowing the "why" behind the learning.Therefore, I strive to help my students realize the why behind the mathematical concepts they learn and how they are grounded in real-world experiences.

I was beyond honored to be recognized as Georgia Science Teacher's Association's (GSTA) 2017 Teacher of Promise.

I received my Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education in May 2014. I finished my Masters degree in Early Childhood Education in May 2016.
