I take great pride in my 7 years of experience working in education. These years have been instrumental in shaping me into a highly skilled and competent standards-based creator. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working alongside a diverse range of brilliant educators who have instilled in me the importance of teaching to the standards. During my tenure as a science teacher, I have had the opportunity to teach a wide variety of subjects, including biology, chemistry, and Earth science. With 4 years of experience teaching biology, I have developed a deep understanding of the life sciences and have become adept at conveying complex biological concepts in an engaging and comprehensible manner. In my 6 years of experience teaching chemistry, I have honed my skills in developing engaging lesson plans that challenge students to think critically and analytically. Lastly, my 2 years of experience teaching Earth science has given me a comprehensive understanding of the Earth's physical properties, processes, and phenomena, which I have incorporated into my teaching to make the subject matter more relatable and tangible for students. Overall, my extensive experience and passion for teaching have allowed me to develop a unique skill set that enables me to create standards-based curricula and foster an engaging and supportive learning environment for students.
As an experienced educator, I have found that using a variety of teaching methods is crucial to engage and motivate students in the learning process. In my classroom, I implement a range of best practices such as inquiry-based learning, project-based learning, flipped classroom, collaborative learning, and differentiated instruction. For instance, I use inquiry-based learning to encourage students to ask questions, explore concepts, and make connections between new and existing knowledge. I also use project-based learning to provide students with opportunities to apply their learning in real-world contexts and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. In addition, I utilize Gradual Release of Responsibility (GRR) model to facilitate learning. This involves modeling, guided practice, collaborative practice, and independent practice. I provide students with graphic organizers to help them organize their thoughts and ideas during the learning process. Furthermore, I believe that differentiation is key to ensuring that all students have access to the curriculum. I incorporate a range of strategies such as flexible grouping, learning contracts, and choice boards to meet the diverse needs of my students. Overall, my teaching philosophy is centered on providing students with a variety of engaging, relevant, and challenging learning experiences that help them develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and lifelong learning skills.
In the academic year 2018-2019, I achieved a notable feat of a 100% passing rate on the biology STAAR and was awarded a medal for this accomplishment. In addition, I was recognized as the Teacher of the Year in 2021, a title I am proud to have earned. While these awards hold great significance, I find my greatest joy in working with my students. Every year, I am fortunate to have a group of teachable and inspiring students, making my job a true honor.
In 2015, I graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry. Following that, I enrolled in an alternative certification program and began working in public schools. In 2019, I completed my Master's degree in Education from the University of Texas- Tyler.
As a teacher with years of experience in the classroom, I am committed to developing high-quality and effective resources for myself and other teachers.
