TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Occupational Therapist, Teaching Artist, Artist-in-Residence, Mixed Media Studio Artist. Bailey has a 25 year background as an Occupational therapist. She is also a mixed media studio artist with works in art collections around the world. Bailey combines these two interests to work as a teaching artist. As an Artist-in-Residence, Bailey teaches children how to create art. Using her Occupational Therapy skills, she specializes in teaching academics and IEP goals thru art to children with disabilities. Bailey believes in helping everyone reach his or her creative potential regardless of age or skill level. Bailey presents seminars to educators on how to successfully use art to teach common core.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I offer residencies of varying lengths to K-12 students. They could be exclusive or inclusive in nature. These programs provide hands-on art experiences in a supportive environment that is adapted to meet the needs of the individual participants. This insures that everyone is successful. I believe in helping everyone reach his or her creative potential regardless of age or skill level. Art provides opportunities for students to express themselves, learn about their world, interact positively with others, and contribute to society. Towards that end, I develop projects that reinforce both scholastic and individual goals. These goals can include: 1. Art technique skills 2. Academic lessons (math, history, science, reading) 3. Communication 4. Attention span 5. Fine motor coordination 6. Decision making 7. Following directions 8. Visual-spatial skills 9. Self-esteem
