TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught for 38 years at the 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade levels. Fifth grade is my first love. I teach all major subject areas. In addition to my regular classroom duties, I have taught in a Basic Skills summer school program for many years as well as taught workshops to co-workers in whole language and technology. My other duties at school include being "Teacher in Charge" and Student Council advisor.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I try very hard to make learning fun for my students each and every day of the school year. It is my goal to use a variety of techniques to reach every learning style of my students. Motivation is the name of the game for I feel that the more children like school, the more they will learn. I try to be resourceful in utilizing a wide variety of techniques to reach every student. Creating games and using manipulatives are both priorities in my classroom.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I was the first teacher chosen at my school for the Governor's Teacher Recognition Award. I am a published poet. I received an A+ for Teachers award and grant. I was selected as a Woman of the Year in my county. I get selected by a former student every year to attend a "Teacher Appreciation Tea". I am also a multiple nominee of "Who's Who Among American Teachers". I am currently in the process of getting a book of poetry published. During the 2009-1010 school year, I was selected as "Teacher of the Year" for my school district. I am especially honored because it is the first year in which our district has participated in this award.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I received a B.A. in elementary education as well as an M.A. in the same. I have always tried to take courses to keep me abreast of the latest educational trends. I also have 30 additional credits beyond my Masters degree in various subject areas.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am the mother of two wonderful adults as well as the grandmother of five equally wonderful grandchildren which include not one, but two sets of twins. I hail from the state of Maryland originally where most of my family still resides. I currently live with my husband in the state of New Jersey where I am an avid poetry writer, shopper, political fanatic, and sports fan.
