I have been a teacher in Special Education for 10 years, specializing in Autism Spectrum Disorder. I have taught in contained and integrated settings at both the elementary and high school level and have worked on a regional team supporting behaviour and complex needs. Inclusion is at the forefront of my advocacy for students, and my passion lies in connecting with educators who go the distance to make sure all students can learn.
My teaching style has to reflect the types of students I am teaching. Due to different personalities, ages and cognitive levels of my students, I am constantly adapting my teaching style to complement their needs.
My greatest honour comes from the successes and accomplishments within my classroom. Even the smallest of successes can make a very tough day worth it!
I attended McMaster University for English Literature, and the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland for my teaching degree in Primary/Junior Education. I have my specialist in Special Education.
Check out my Twitter page @asd_teach for more ideas on how I implement my resources into my daily teaching and advocate for my students.
