TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught every grade from preschool through high school. After teaching at many elementary schools, I took a break to open up my own art/portrait shop in Virginia. Later, in Asheville, NC, I went back to teaching in a private, alternative school where experiential learning was the norm. I went on to become the Art teacher at a public high school for student at risk of dropping out. Much of my teaching was integrated with other disciplines through the school model of Expeditionary Learning/ Outward Bound. My latest exciting teaching experience has been as the Art teacher for some wonderful and energetic Middle school students.

MY TEACHING STYLE

One thing I know is that learning is fun and kids love to have fun learning. What better way is there to learn to enjoy life than through visual art? My lessons will teach kids so much about ART and about being CREATIVE while they are just enjoying themselves. My experience with ELOB has taught me that Art easily integrates with all other subjects and that this integration can only make the learning experience better and richer. Come with me and have FUN with ART!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Being Teacher of the Year (2 times) has been an honor. I have also been honored to be recognized by the local business association as an exemplary teacher. ELOB was a great community with which to partner. I enjoyed presenting at one of their conferences in Denver.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

After college, many years ago, I went on to take additional courses to be able to teach at the High school level. I also attained my National Board Certification and then became Re-Certified recently.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I also am a skilled Caricature Artist. I have so much fun drawing people on the streets and at festivals. Most of all, I have great fun playing with and creating art with my 5 year old granddaughter!
