TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've been a high school English teacher for 23 years. I teach Junior English CP/AP and creative writing. Although I've taught various other subjects, these are my staples. During my pedagogy sojourn, I noticed teaching writing and voice was indeed a difficult challenge. Thus I have spent my entire career creating various teaching strategies to promote good writing. My masters has an emphasis on rhetoric and composition and I've attended various writing and AP Language and Rhetoric workshops as well as leading a few inservices. I currently teach at Arcadia High School in California.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style is all about balance. I try to be creative, yet prepare my students for academia. In regards to the common core ( or CAS), I develop lessons that are rigorous, yet intriguing and active. I actually try to stay away from the word rigor and replace it with vigor. I do this simply because it is a more fluid word that doesn't sound stoic or staunchy. Teaching is about change and more often than not, we change elements of our lessons on demand. SO call me a vigorous teacher.
