I am entering my 16th year in the Columbia School District in Brooklyn, Michigan. I have taught at a number of grade levels and currently I am teaching second grade and I love it!
My classroom is very centered based where my students are learning at an individual level. I also use RTI in my classroom as well as the Nurtured Heart approach.
In 2007, I was one of the finalist for the “30 under 30” award for Jackson County. It is an award that is given out to Jackson County residents in a variety of professional fields who are working to create a better community. In 2011, I was a runner up for the Top Teacher in the Jackson County.
I have a Liberal Arts Degree from Spring Arbor University with a double minor in Language Arts and Social Studies. I also have a Master’s Degree from Eastern Michigan University in Media and Technology.
In addition to teaching, I run several after school programs such as engineers in education, math fact academy, and writer’s workshop. I have also been the data director for my building in our district. I have served as the chair on our school improvement team in reading and I am currently serving as the chair for our science committee. I was also the J.V. defensive coordinator for three years until my wife and I started a family. I am also very involved with the Set Free campaign through my church which is help to abolish slavery around the world. I love to travel and a personal goal of mine is to visit all 7 continents. I have been to 4 of them and I have 3 to go!
