I have taught at the Middle School level for 15 years. I have taught grade 6, 7 and 8 including Algebra 1.
My teaching style would definitely be more of a facilitator role. I love to encourage independent thought and self-learning through student self-assessing strategies. I enjoy asking questions throughout my lessons and I love to encourage student dialogue instead of just getting or giving answers. The “why or how” is always important to explain in my classroom. I encourage student growth by reminding students that growth in mathematics stems from practice and as cliché as it sounds, practice does make perfect! I encourage students to accept that mistakes will happen, but it will help with the learning and growing experience. I always remind students to take mistakes in stride and let it fuel their learning and growth in mathematics!
