I earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. I have worked with a variety of grade levels throughout my journey to becoming a teacher. I student taught in 4th grade. After student teaching, I worked at a school that specialized in Autism Spectrum Disorder. Then I started my teaching career in High School Exceptional Education (special needs) and have been teaching for the past 13 years. I work with students who have Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, and other Intellectual Disabilities. I love what I do and would love to share some of the lessons and units I have created for my students.
I work with students with varying exceptionalities, so my teaching style depends on the needs of my students. In my class, I do a lot of repetition because it helps my students retain the information they are presented with. I do whole-group instruction, small-group instruction, and one on one instruction. All my students require different levels of support ranging from participatory to independent. In my classroom, we work on academic skills, vocational skills, and independent living skills. In my classroom we promote independence and I love seeing my students gain skills and grow in their learning.
