I have been working as an educator for the past 11 years in ELA/Literacy. I have had the opportunity to have worked with students who were considered low level learners and have moved them into proficiency. Please explore my learning tools and I promise you that your students vocabulary and understanding will grow. The key is providing students with text that are relatable and engaging. Common core standards are attached to every worksheet as well as a short response question. Students learn how to cite textual evidence, use vocabulary and analyze the text all in one lesson.
I have learned that exposing students to common core standards aligned with the lesson and it's objective is paramount in moving students into proficiency. I also believe in repetition and holding students accountable to not only use vocabulary in their everyday language where applicable but also in their writing across curricular.
