Year 6 HASS Australian Government Research Project

This Year 6 HASS engaging government project has students using inquiry skills to research the Australian Government. It has TWO assignments, with both providing critical thinking with Civics and Democracy. Now suitable for home and distance learning with Google slides option. It has been designed to tie assessment with the Australian Curriculum Year 6, although it could meet Year 5 standards or for any class completing research on Australian Government

* The first is a term long research based project. It has students looking at the three levels of government, democracy and how the federal parliament works. They can work either individually or in pairs to complete the research and to present a PowerPoint presentation.

* The second project is VOTE FOR ME. This is a fun assignment that has students running as a candidate for their local government, to represent their school. How could they make their school better if they were elected? They present the information to other classmates or another class for a mock election. This provides students with an understanding of the electoral process and some of the roles and responsibilities of Australian citizens.
