Description

This product includes everything needed to complete student writing assignment using text-based evidence from multiple sources. The topic of the assignment is the wildly popular viral video, "What does the fox say?" (available for viewing here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jofNR_WkoCE). This is an excellent assignment for teaching students how to use text-based evidence or how to complete a Document Based Question (DBQ). The following items are included:

Anchor Document - This document can be read and discussed as a whole group. It provides students with a definition and some criteria of what it means for a video to go "viral." This anchor text prepares students to examine texts related to "What does the fox say?"

Evidence Documents - Included are four documents of varying types that students will read and analyze for evidence that "What does the fox say" fits the definition of a viral video. The sources of these documents include: a screenshot of the printed book version from Amazon.com, an story from National Geographic, a news article from The Huffington Post, and an interview with the creators of the video.

Notes Matrix - This worksheet will help students organize information from each of the four documents in preparation of the final written assignment.

Assignment page - This explains the criteria for the assignment and provides students with the claim (see preview file).

**Students LOVE this assignment because it's high interest and connects with their lives outside of school. Teachers LOVE this assignment because it is rigorous, CCLS-aligned, and uses a variety of authentic, non-fiction texts.
