This pacing guide offers a general overview of the Virginia Standards of Learning for Third Grade. You can use the guide to help plan lessons and map your curriculum for the year. The pacing guide provides an outline of the topics in the four main content areas: Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies, and lists the standards in a sequential order for skill progression and to build on previous knowledge.

HOW IS THE PACING GUIDE ORGANIZED?

The pacing guide calendar groups the standards into units for weekly planning. The guide offers suggested unit lengths in which topics may be covered. However, units may be lengthened or shortened depending on student(s)’ ability to meet the objectives of each standard.

HOW TO USE THIS PACING GUIDE FOR ANY CURRICULUM:

If you are using this pacing guide for another state, look for areas where your standards overlap the ones included and areas where you will need to adapt these standards to meet your needs. This pacing guide is meant to be a reference for lesson planning throughout the year. Feel free to adjust the pacing of these units to meet the needs of your school and students.
