Description

This writing flip book includes all the information that your students will need when reading and responding to questions about the theme or main idea of a text. The various parts of the flip book provide explanations, examples, and activities when exploring each topic (theme and main idea), as students have a tendency to sometimes confuse the two.

There are two versions of the flip book included in the file (one filled-out, the other blank). Having these two options is also a great way to differentiate your lessons! Students who struggle with note-taking or need extra assistance can be given the filled out version, while other students can fill it out on their own. This way every student’s individual needs are met.

Option #1: Use as a reference

It takes about 5-10 minutes to assemble the flip book (it may take a bit more for younger students). Simply, print out the pages and give each student a copy of their own to cut out (instructions are labeled on the pages). Once the flip book is cut out and stapled, students have their own personal book that they can reference over and over again all year long!

Option #2: Use as an individual lesson

Give students the blank copy of the flip book pages. Once the flip book is assembled, display the notes on a projector or Smart Board (zoom in) and have students write the notes down in the designated sections. Students will not only be practicing their writing skills, but they will also get a more in-depth look at the elements within the flip book. Once the notes are complete, they can use the information over and over again.

Also included:

• Finding the theme handout (use with any text)

• Finding the main idea handout (use with any text)

Assembly instructions are included with your download. The size of the book is approximately 6 3/4" x 4 3/4".
