The Watsons Go To Birmingham, 1963 Unit Bundle

This is a unit based upon the novel "The Watsons Go To Birmingham" by Christopher Paul Curtis. It has been aligned to the new common core standards. You will be receiving everything you need to teach this unit! You are receiving 3 1/2 weeks of lesson plans that are ready to print out and paste into your plan book. You will also be receiving a list of vocabulary words for each of the 3 weeks you are teaching the novel as well as vocabulary organizers, power points to teach the words, Vocabulary cards, and quizzes with keys.

This bundle also includes many power points to teach the daily skills you are assessing through the novel. Power points on persuasive friendly letters, inferencing, biopoems, a quickwrite, and a 10 important words summarizing activity are also available with this purchase. You will also be receiving links to a nonfiction article, a newspaper book report, a jeopardy review game, and an option for a test.

You will also receive a template to let your students create a travel journal that will relate to the daily events in the brown bomber as the wierd watsons travel to Alabama.. This will allow the students to reflect, summarize, and visualize about the text. A final test has been included with a link to a more difficult test which can be used to challenge students as well. An additional bonus is the comprehension collector that you will be receiving. This is a great resource to use while students are reading the text. I have compiled a note-taking journal that will allow you to create a booklet for students. This booklet will contain all of the comprehension organizers that students will utilize throughout the novel.

Double Entry Diaries are also integrated throughout the novel. This requires students to read and reflect on the text using a number of literary elements. It is a great way to deepen students' appreciation and knowledge of the text.

Finally, you will be receiving directions for students to create a newspaper book report. This will require students to reflect on the entire novel, themes, and character's changes and growth throughout the novel.
