The Toothpaste Millionaire (by Jean Merrill) Reading Group Packet

This packet guides students through their reading of The Toothpaste Millionaire, by Jean Merrill, in three parts while focusing on literary reading standards from the Common Core.

The Toothpaste Millionaire is a short book that students often breeze through, missing much of the vocabulary, depth, and well developed themes. By using this book as in a guided reading group teachers are able to ask students to pause and examine the author's opinions on race and economics. There are even many math components to this book that teachers can use to draw in students who are typically resistant to reading but excel in math.
