Description

The Social Dilemma, Social Media Self-Discovery, 5th Edition

Yes, this is the one you have heard of, the powerful, life-changing (I deactivated my FB account) movie on Netflix.

Every teen AND adult worldwide must see this movie.

I developed this material to bring awareness to teens and adults and help them think, be conscious and take back control of their lives. Love and talk to those around us.

This is an Extremely Complex issue and I could only touch some key aspects. I have been extremely cautious to not call out the kids about their behavior, nor judge it in any way. I try to ask questions only and have them self-reveal.

BE ADVISED, Some kids will at first react defensively and feel threatened. To what degree depends on their EQ and relationship with their phone.

It is meant as a dialogue, not a lecture. Enjoy one another, encourage the participants to share all of their interactions, positive, negative and ambiguous. Honestly, social media terrifies me, and working in a high-school, I see its influence everyday. Any AGE is appropriate, post elementary. Also good for grade 11-12. I'm just trying to get there earlier.

Places where there is room for sketches or even written feedback, the kids are encouraged to express themselves in any way at all. songs, dance, art, poems, whatever speaks to them.

I've taken some original pages and spread them out a bit, giving more space for expression.

It is largely an oral activity, for kids to share experiences.

Includes:

  • NEWEST - imagining (remembering our childhoods without phones; what made us happy?
  • NEWEST - check ins, reminds the students where to revisit the topic
  • NEWER - Overcoming the point of Human Weakness, what's next? We may look at Sci-Fi for answers.
  • NEW - How did social media bring good things to the world? 2 teamwork/ sharing pages.
  • NEW - "How to survive a break-up," (w/ Social Media of course) process charts now in B4 size for effective student use
  • Brief text and usage record
  • Social Media Bingo
  • Addiction, family behavior, and change discussions
  • Vocab and usage questions
  • Algorithms: affect on mental health
  • Social Media "ART" and feedback
  • Defining what FB, IG, and Twitter are "selling"
  • Identifying your daily SM activities
  • Sharing feeling and path to the future
  • Interactive chart on how to take control.

16 pages are original, p. 2, 19, 20 are taken from the Social Dilemma site and are a bonus, free.

Proper for anyone grade 7 and up, old enough to use this Social Media.
I suggest about 20m. of movie with a page or 2 of material, 1 in class, 1 for HW. Find the flow that is good for you.

Common Core standards may be broader than listed.

I will send the WORD file, just email me.
