Description

Would you like to make music easy for your substitute teacher? Perhaps they aren't musical and don't feel comfortable leading a full lesson on their own. I've now taken my original lesson plan and added a downloadable teaching video of me teaching the material and content to your classroom so that everyone can relax, learn and have musical fun together! Link to the video and the workbook is in the PDF file which takes you to dropbox. (You do not need a dropbox account to access the file!)

What the substitute teacher will facilitate:

~ Have a device to play the video.

~ Have all worksheets and craft supplies gathered for students.

~ Have a listening device on hand ready to play the listening suggestions.

~ Play songs or performances when directed to.

~ Organize the class appropriately when instructed to participate in games or activities.

What I will facilitate as the video teacher:

~ Introduce the lesson

~ Explain the subject/biography/musical theme

~ Read the story

~ Explain the activities for both age categories

~ Guide the crafts

About the lessons:

Learn about the life and music of Pyotr Tchaikovsky! This easy open and go lesson is perfect for classrooms or home-school. No previous musical is necessary to facilitate these lessons. All lessons are suitable for ages 4-12 and can be worked on together as a group or family. Accompanying the teaching time is the choice between two activities; one for young learners ages 4-8 years old and one for older learners ages 8-12 years old.

Included in each 30 minute lesson is a "Setting The Stage" section which introduces the children to what they are about to learn followed by a more informative teaching time called "Diving Deeper", and followed by a hands on "Activity Time."

Each lesson has book suggestions as well as listening suggestions that correspond with the theme of the lesson, in this case all highlighting the life and music of Pyotr Tchaikovsky!

Within each lesson you will find the option of using a link or a QR code that links you directly to a short video or live performance featuring music by the composer.

In the appendix, I've included a sketch of the composer that can be used to either string up as a timeline or be used as a coloring/painting template to keep little hands busy during the informative section of the lesson.

Each lesson gives you a list of materials needed at the beginning of the lesson which usually includes many household items that a classroom or house would already have.

One important note is that the use of a music platform such as Apple music, Spotify or YouTube is a must when facilitating these musical lessons!

Included in this lesson:

~ Listen to the story of the Nutcracker Ballet with your own Nutcracker (stuffie) in hand.

~ An informative section on the life and music of Tchaikovsky.

~ A fun overview video of Tchaikovsky's life.

~ The opportunity for young learners to learn how to dance the Russian "TREPAK" with dancer and choreographer Sandra Booker. A private link is included to the dance tutorial.

~ Older learners will get to track the progression of the battle in Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" with this detailed musical map.

~ Composer sketch for coloring/sketching purposes.

~ Listening Suggestions - "Piano Concerto No. 1", "1812 Overture", "The Nutcracker Ballet" and "Swan Lake."

~ Book Suggestions - "Ella Bella Ballerina & Swan Lake", "Bea in The Nutcracker" and "Swan Lake."

My hope and desire with the lessons from Conversations with Composers is that through the stories, the activities, the music and the videos, children would be drawn into the fascinating world of Classical music.
