It doesn’t feel like summer until you have at least one pool party! Challenge students to build a pool float for the “lazy river” that is able to stay afloat in the water and hold 20 pennies.
Summer End of the Year STEM Activity 4: Build a Holder STEM Challenge
Beat the heat by staying hydrated this summer! Students will go through the Engineering Design Process to create a water bottle holder to use at sports games. Student’s holder inventions must be able to hold a water bottle in it and students can drink water on the move.

The coaster summer season has officially started! Challenge students to create a roller coaster track that will keep the marble running the longest. Students will learn about roller coasters and practice measuring.

What materials do I need?
You can build with recyclables or craft materials like popsicle sticks, index cards, construction paper. Use anything you have around!
How long does each challenge take?
Personally, my students complete challenges in our 45 minute class period. You can spread this out over several days, so students plan more in depth, or complete it in one sitting.
This activity includes a printable version AND Google Slides Presentation (works with Microsoft PowerPoint). This digital version:

HOW I USE THIS AS A STEM TEACHER:
I teach 360 students each week in grades K through 4th, so I created these Summer End of the Year themed stem activities to be able to easily set up, use reusable materials, and need low copying! I can adjust response sheets and challenges to meet each grade level. I need something quick and easy for me, yet engaging and challenging for my students!
