Description

Using shorts or other animated short films to teach literary elements and literary device is hands down the most engaging and effective practice in the ELA classroom! Students absolutely love learning with them! But, it takes forever to sort through thousands of films and figure out which literary elements correlate. This guide lets you bypass all of that and go straight to teaching!

Personal Note: I have viewed and analyzed hundreds of animated short films (I'm kind of obsessed), choosing only the most impactful films that lend themselves to literary study. This guides matches every major literary element to PERFECT film!

❤ Short films are also wonderful for social/emotional learning and often teach great life-lessons about bullying, acceptance, love, friendship, and much more.

This resource includes

  • Hand-picked selection of the best short films for teaching literary elements
  • Summary for each film along with a theme analysis
  • Links to each video
  • Links to short film literary workshops
  • How, why, and when to teach short films

Interactive Short Film Workshops Include:

  • Interactive questions and activities for inference, symbolism, theme, conflict, and foreshadowing.
  • Video link to watch directly on slides
  • Sample answers for everything
  • Moveable pieces to reveal some answers
  • Inspiring vocabulary activity
  • Culminating Blog Writing Activity! Students can make their own blog on the slides that highlight their passions, talents, interests, or skills.
