Revised Grade 5 - NGSS Standards and CAST Practice/Training Test Items Aligned

This revised document will help teachers, throughout the year, prepare students for the CAST test of the Next Generation Science Standards for Grade 5. The document contains each of the thus far "released" items (68) from the state and aligns those items by area (Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Earth and Space Sciences, and Engineering) and by Standard. In addition, the Essential Questions that tie the standards together are included.

THIS REVISION HAS ENLARGED AND "SHARPENED UP" THE INDIVIDUAL ITEMS SO THAT TEACHERS CAN USE THEM WITH THEIR STUDENTS. Items are less "blurry" and larger.

The grade-level standards are listed just before each set of items, as a helpful reference for teachers. Also included are the Performance Expectations - what should students be able to do.

Many of the questions that are found on the Grade 5 2018-2019 CAST Practice and Training Tests can be answered by taking the time to carefully analyze the graphics or other information provided with each item and then using logical thinking processes to determine the correct answer.
