Ready to get your students excited about reading? These reading comprehension and text evidence passages will do just that. These passages will help your students in using and citing evidence from the text to support their answers.
Note: Pictures from the preview are samples from all the different text evidence readers.
Students identify both explicit and implicit information from the text to help them answer the questions. This resource was created for my first grade class, however I have seen teachers using it in 2nd grade and 3rd grade with their students. I originally started to use these readers when I notices students had trouble identifying key information in the passages to support their thinking. While many of the answers to the questions in these reading comprehension passages are explicitly stated, other questions allow students to make inferences based on implicit information from the text. The passages are infused with first grade vocabulary focus words as well as inferential and explicit textual evidence questions. Students color code the answers in the text. The passages are short so students can focus on textual evidence and comprehension.
This set is monthly themed with high interest readings for the season. There are 20 passages. This is for readers that are reading a bit beyond the Beginning reading level but are at the beginning stages of citing evidence using the text. It includes fiction and nonfiction readers. This is the February packet.
