Description

The Parent Guide for Reading At Home is a great resource for parents to help their child practice and improve their reading skills at home. This packet includes a Digital Version that can be shared with parents electronically for parents. The digital version is in Google Slides, so you must have a Google Account to access.

This two page handout includes comprehensive tips on what parents can do to help their 3rd-5th grade child with reading.

Topics include:

  • Promoting Reading as Lifelong and Important - Things Parents Can Do to Promote Literacy
  • Reading All Around Us
  • Questions to Ask Before, During and After Reading

Print front to back and distribute to parents:

  • In a Registration Packet before School Begins
  • First Day of School
  • Beginning of the Year Grade Level Parent Meetings

  • RTI, 504, ARD or IEP Meetings
  • Family Reading Nights

Also included is an At Home Reading Log to encourage students to read 15-20 minutes each night. Parents and their child can log the books they read each evening. Parents can sign and return the log to school so students can collect credit or a reward.
