Description

Everything you need to teach a child to use the pronouns "he" and "she" while speaking. This kit breaks language therapy for this skill down into a step-by-step plan. Start with receptive identification of "he" and "she" and gradually move up through conversation. Perfect for speech/language therapy or home practice.

What's Included:

This kit includes one page per phase of therapy below. Each phase builds gradually on the skill to facilitate faster progress.

  1. Receptive Identification of the Pronouns “he” and “she”: Client will demonstrate understanding of the pronouns “he” and “she” by pointing to a picture as described by the clinician using a specific pronoun with at least 80% accuracy (such as “point to he is running” when there is a picture of a boy running and of a girl running).
  2. Using the Pronouns “he” and “she” in Short Phrases: Client will correctly use the pronouns “he” and “she” in a short phrase in response to a question by the clinician with at least 80% accuracy (such as, “who runs?” “she does”).
  3. Using the Pronouns “he” and “she” in Sentences: Client will use the pronouns “he” and “she” in sentences when describing a picture or scene with at least 80% accuracy.
  4. Using the Pronouns “he” and “she” in Structured Conversation: Client will correctly use the pronoun in structured conversation tasks, such as when answering open-ended questions or making up short stories, in at least 80% of obligatory contexts (places where it should be used).
  5. Using the Pronouns “he” and “she” in Unstructured Conversation: During a 10-minute observation in the natural setting, Client will correctly use the pronouns “he” and “she” in at least 80% of obligatory contexts (places where it should be used) during conversational speech.

What Should I Do in Therapy while Practicing These Worksheets?

You may have noticed that these worksheets aren't going to take up a full 30-minute therapy session to complete. That's because we're streamlining the therapy process. Children with speech and language disorders need repetition and simplicity, especially in the beginning stages of learning a new skill.

However, I know that students get bored as well. Go through the child's current page of this packet once at the beginning of the session, then pick out something to do while you practice. You can play a game, build with legos, draw, etc. While you do that activity, continue to practice the words/skills on the worksheet over and over again. It may seem repetitive but this is what builds those brain pathways!

Another option is to shorten your sessions to 5-minute sessions. You can often get more reps in during 5 minutes of drill work than you can in a full 30-minute group session because you don't have to add in all of the games and fluff. Set a 5-minute timer and see how many times your client can practice the words on the worksheet. When the timer is done, you send them back to class. That's it! Who is this For?

  • Speech-Language Pathologists: This kit is perfect for use in your 1:1 or group therapy sessions to help a child learn to use pronouns. You can also send these pages to classroom teachers and caregivers to facilitate carry-over once the sound has been established.
  • Caregivers and Educators: Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) are specially trained to help children learn to use grammatical markers like pronouns. However, once the child starts to get the hang of it, this packet can be used to encourage carry-over at home and in the classroom. Check with the child's SLP to see if they are ready to work on something like this packet!
