What educators are saying

This was definitely one of my favorite resources to date. I liked how everything was on two pages. I printed this double sided and used this as an introduction to the Great Migration. I loved that the students learned about the Great Migration through Langston Hughes' poem!
I really like this as an engaging way to teach the lesson. I always love when I can integrate some ELA skills in the Social Studies classroom!

Description

Students listen to and read Langston Hughes' poem "One Way Ticket" to analyze the push factors and the process of The Great Migration. Students will use references in the poem to map destinations of African Americans during the migration and to identify push factors of The Great Migration. Students will also write about their own connections to the push factors mentioned in the poem. The handout also includes a lists of needed materials, possible activities, and extension activities.
