Description

This unit is based on the CCSS standard RI 2.9. If you are not teaching Common Core, it is still valuable to use when teaching students how to compare and contrast important and interesting ideas in two texts on the same topic. One activity asks students to look at two authors’ points of view on the same topic. There is also a writing practice lesson for writing an opinion. The unit is designed to supplement regular classroom curriculum. Although focused on 2nd grade, many of the activities would provide a good review for 3rd graders.

This unit includes 26 student pages; 17 answer key pages
There are
-7 Pages of Teacher Notes with lesson ideas
-5 Anchor posters to use when teaching compare and contrast
-10 short passages (2 on each topic) Topics: Math and Reading Classes, Oranges and Lemons, Frogs and Toads, Should Kids Play Football and Dogs and Cats
-Vocabulary Lists
-7 pages of printables which review how to compare and contrast non-fiction text on the same topic
