Description
All these resources go with this History For Humans episode on Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, and the Fight For Civil Rights in America.
This is a complete, everything you need, learning activity for distance learning and distance teaching! It starts with a youtube video-lecture from History for Humans (this is free on youtube) and comes with a follow-along interactive note sheet that could be completed digitally or with pen and paper. The video is not just engaging but also teaches in a way to help struggling learners. This video story-lecture tells the dramatic stories of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, their beliefs, goals, and major life events and most especially their involvement in the Civil Rights Movement. It also has a quick 7 question google form quiz as a formative assessment. Lastly, it has an extension activity, which is also explained clearly in the video itself, that compliments and extends the learning from the video. The activity includes reading excerpts from the I Have a Dream and the Ballot of the Bullet speeches, chunked with comprehension questions, and then students create a debate between the two on this question: "What is the best way to empower African Americans and gain Civil Rights?" There is a word bank and some sentence starters to help struggling learners.
