Mandarin First Words Language Checklist

This checklist was designed to help speech language pathologists determine a bilingual Mandarin child’s vocabulary in both languages. This is an easy to use checklist that can be given to parents or used along with an interpreter. It is important that if the child uses one word in both languages they should be counted as two words.

Children’s first words will differ based on their environment and unique interests so there is a section for parents to write in additional words. The words chosen were selected from research and also consulting with native speaking interpreters of Mandarin.
