What educators are saying
This is an engaging activity and overall, a great resource for diverse learners to include special needs and ELLs.
Such a fun and engaging activity. My students loved it. It really got them in the Lord of the Flies frame of mind.
Description
What would it be like to be deserted on a desert island with only other kids and no adult supervision?
In the midst of a wartime evacuation, your plane has gone down in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The only survivors are yourself and other children aged 8-12… You have only one goal: the survival of your group…
In this activity, students will use cunning, teamwork, and maybe even murder and thievery to earn the most points and be the ultimate survivors!
DAY 1- Your plane has gone down and you are stranded: Take a character card and personal item (teacher must cut these out). Write a descriptive paragraph about the event.
DAY 2- Form alliances; come up with team rules.
Day 3-4- Make a plan and sabotage the other team by taking a chance with the roll of a dice!
Day 5- Diary Entry of your experience; add the points up to decide a winning group.
(this can be expanded to add activities. I have each of my teams make a flag as well. It could also be extended to take place all through the unit).
This Package includes:
- Assignment booklet for students (including rules)
- Book-accurate island map for student strategy planning
- 30 Character cards, including characters from the book and films
- 48 inventory items
