A Literacy Center for Black History Month.
In kindergarten, you may wish to have a volunteer read aloud to the students working in the literacy center.
In first grade, you may wish to have a volunteer who can help any students who struggle with reading the clip cards.
In second grade and third grade students should be able to use the cards independently after hearing the books read aloud or having a discussion of the information on the clip cards.
Included are 28 Clip Cards, each having 1 description of an influential African American, 1 clip art figuring depicting the influential African American and two answer choices.
Students clip a clothes pin or a paper clip to the correct answer.
A response sheet and an answer key is included.
If you would like to make this activity self checking, turn each card over and place a small sticker or a draw a check mark, star, etc. on the back of the correct answer. Students will be able to flip and check.
A list of children’s books for each influential African American is included. Sara E. Good is included in the anthology, Black Stars: African American Women Scientists and Inventors. There is one book included for each of the other influential African Americans.
