These NO-PREP reading passages and questions are perfect tools to build your students’ character recognition, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and fluency.

Learn Characters in Context

It is vital to introduce and practice Chinese characters in context. Therefore, each passage introduces 2-5 common Chinese characters. After completing this set, students will master 33 basic Chinese characters.

Differentiation 

Three different versions included: Pinyin and words only. You can choose what works best for your students based on their needs. We also recommend you can use them in combination so that it will promote students’ phonics skills and character recognition simultaneously.

Building Upon the Four Modalities: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing

Each passage includes two reading comprehension questions. Formats are varied: multiple-choice, drawing/writing responses, speaking responses, and matching questions. The questions are picture-based. You can read the directions to your students, and students can complete the rest independently.

Building Vocabulary with Visuals

The 10 passages cover the most common topics in Chinese. Both the passages and reading response questions are picture-integrated to promote vocabulary building.
