King Midas Musical Performance Script for Elementary Students

In this show the familiar Greek myth of King Midas is told but the musical performances are anything but traditional! The music in this King Midas play will get your students moving! Popular songs they know and love are woven meaningfully into the tale.
This King Midas performance package can be used by an elementary classroom teacher, a music teacher, a summer camp coordinator, or a drama program instructor.
This show could be performed by anywhere from 25 to 100+ students depending on stage size.
The length of the performance is approximately 40 minutes. I use a combination of pre-recorded audio and live performance. However, the “9 audio clips” could easily be performed live!
This show was originally performed by 80 students in my drama program (K through 8th). I divided them into 4 class groups of 20 students. However this show could easily be performed by less or more students depending on your class/classes and your stage.
Some grouping options are:
One class (25 students) split into 4 cast groups
Four classes each taking a cast group
Eight classes with two classes in each cast group
Cast Groups:
1. Flowers + Bees Group - students dressed as flowers and bees and one student dressed as Princess Marygold
2. Gold Coins Group - students dressed as gold coins
3. Soldiers Group - students dressed as soldiers
4. Castle Servants Group - students dressed as various castle servants and one student dressed as King Midas
