Description

This KEY IDEAS in Text for Reading Comprehension Task Cards “Task Box Filler” set is a Special Education and Autism Resource for those with delays in reading comprehension skills.

This Key Ideas in Reading task card reading comprehension activity focuses on determining what two individuals share, or have in common. This includes real life pictures with text and a choice of four possible responses. To help our learners with delayed comprehension skills, the answer is provided within the text as a sentence, or phrase within a sentence.

WILL THIS TAKE A LOT OF PREP TIME?

Oh, no! Just print the pages (2 cards to a page), laminate and trim! Your students are ready to begin!

WHAT’S INCLUDED:

· 20 Task Cards for KEY IDEAS in Text for Reading Comprehension

· IEP Goals and Task Box Label

· Print this entire activity on white card stock paper and laminate for durability that will last many years.

HOW WILL THIS ACTIVITY HELP MY STUDENTS WITH READING COMPREHENSION?

Using a real life picture as a visual aid and the response clearly stated within the text, your students will learn to reread the text to locate the correct response. There is only one correct response choice (none are tricky!) to help our kids complete this task successfully.

I HAVE KIDS IN MY CLASS THAT HAVEN’T REACHED THIS SKILL YET. HOW CAN I HELP THEM UNDERSTAND?

My best suggestion is to print TWO sets of task cards. On one set, you will take a yellow highlighter and draw a line through the correct response. THEN, you will laminate this set of task cards for your learners who need this extra level of support.

SUGGESTED IEP GOALS For Special Education Students:

Given a short reading passage and a picture related to the text, STUDENT will determine the key idea for the connection between the two people in the passage, by choosing the correct response out of a field of four possible choices, with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.

Given a short reading passage and a picture related to the text, STUDENT will determine the key idea for the connection between the two people in the passage, by REREADING THE HIGHLIGHTED TEXT and marking the correct response out of a field of four possible choices, with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.
