Description

Place value is the introductory unit for grades 3 and 4. As teachers we are very busy.
This resource is a teacher friendly guide to introducing place value. It is designed from grade 4 Common Core State Standards. Standards for grades 3 and 4 are listed on the last page of the presentation. If you have an advanced group of grade 3 mathematics students this resource would work for them. I tried to make this guide a step by step introduction to place value. This is what I use for the first unit in my grade 4 class. Use present mode to get the timing and pacing used to allow students time to think, process and discuss the concepts introduced.

Each lesson involves teacher instructions, math vocabulary, guided practice, independent practice and a printed resource that can be collected at the end for assessment. Keep in mind this is a resource used for whole group instruction and is a strong supplement for the math resources that you already have in your classroom. The resource does not provide differentiated activities for struggling or advanced students. Therefore, that will be something you will want to have prepared for advanced or struggling students.

Each lesson is designed to take 5-15 minutes and gives time for students to work in small groups and independently on the concepts presented. I hope that you find the resource beneficial to you and your students!
