My students were struggling to take the time to read a recipe. This really helped break it down and make them understand each part. We now use this concept for each recipe we use in class before making it.
Description
A recipe is a great example of reading for information! This powerpoint and related activity unpacks all that is in a recipe. Students are shown how a recipe is structured, and how they can use it to successfully prepare a dish. The related activity gets students to choose a recipe, and glean information from it to determine if they'd be able to make it. This is a great intro activity for students new to cooking. Please note that the recipe included in the powerpoint includes both metric and imperial measurements.
