Description

It's January, a NEW YEAR and back to school! Let's celebrate New Years Eve again!

Whether push in, small group, or teletherapy, this activity can orient students to the significance of the new calendar year. Feel free to edit and make your own and reuse in 2025, 2026, etc!

Note: this powerpoint will guide you along- You will need to prep links, access to the following:

1) bookmark on YouTube to replay NYE midnight, Times Square, New York City. You can watch the real count down, then have your own by following the powerpoint.

2) Queue up a way to dance - have a dance party! Feel free to create a slide of choices that work with your students.

3) Be ready to play Auld Lang Syne

Materials: I usually purchase a NYE kit of party supplies that include:

  • noise makers,
  • confetti,
  • whistles/horns,
  • paper blowers,
  • a variety of hats.

Please be cautious with these materials! Many items are NOT safe for students who may ingest, bite, chew, throw, or use these items as not intended.

Deliver the powerpoint on the smart board, screen or print and read as a paper story. As you read through the powerpoint, follow its prompts making sure that all of the students in your group have a hat + party favor.

Note that students who have significant sensitivities to noise may want to wear their noise canceling headphones.

If you students use AAC, they can select their choices by labeling or describing what they want (i.e., blue horn). They can use AAC to count down (as prompted by the slides.) This activity is meant to make NYE come to life so that students learn what it means. Calendar time will also reinforce the new year.
