Description

This lessons set consists of 8 lessons teaching equivalent fractions. Students will use a variety of techniques including, pictures, number lines, and number bonds. You will need fraction strips of paper that students can fold. However, my students found it very useful to use the actual plastic fraction strips. This allowed modifications for my students with sensory issues that could not fold or partition objects into equal shares.

**NOTE**
Lesson 25 and 27 need a template, however, it is not found in the module. I have created a template to go along with the lessons. The last slide provides a picture of each side of the template. You can copy the pictures and paste them into Microsoft Work. Hopefully it will help you.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Understand two fractions as equivalent (equal) if they are the same size, or the same point on a number line.
Recognize and generate simple equivalent fractions, (e.g., 1/2 = 2/4, 4/6 = 2/3). Explain why the fractions are equivalent, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.
Express whole numbers as fractions, and recognize fractions that are equivalent to whole numbers. Examples: Express 3 in the form 3 = 3/1; recognize that 6/1 = 6; locate 4/4 and 1 at the same point of a number line diagram.
