Description

Genghis Khan and the Mongols Webquest and Video Analysis with Key- this is a 12 page document that contains a webquest and a completed teachers key for easy marking. It contains 30 questions based on a Crash Course World History video, and the History.com website.

Students will begin this assignment by watching the Crash Course video: Wait For It...The Mongols! The video will discuss nomadic cultures and why the Mongolians specifically were such a successful group. Genghis Khan and his role of empire building is analyzed in detail due to his military skill and ability to unite the Mongol tribes. The size of the empire which was created, the military skill of the Mongol horsemen, and the subsequent empires after Genghis Khan's death are examined. The positive impacts of the Mongolian Empire are listed: safe trade routes, religious freedom, and cross cultural interaction, as are the negative: violence, brutality of their conquests, the short time the empire existed, little interest in art/architecture, and the possible cause of the Black Death reaching Europe. Following the Crash Course video, students will travel to the History.com site where they will watch a short video and read an article about the life of Genghis Khan. His youth, military career, and the cause of his death are all covered.

This webquest can be easily used as an introduction to the topic, a study guide, or a quick and easy sub plan.
