Description

This editable Google Slides™ resource is a lesson on the basic film techniques: sound, mise-en-scéne, camera angles, and framing. The slides introduce the lesson with objectives and discussion questions and then move into definitions, effects, and examples of each technique. Each technique is linked to a hyperlinked, timestamped example from the movie Charade (1963). Screenshots are also provided on the appropriate slides as examples. All of the links lead to the movie that is posted in its entirety on Youtube. The movie is in the public domain. This lesson is a great introduction to the basics of film criticism and theory. Additionally, teaching students to analyze filmmaking techniques is a great way to introduce or enhance understanding authors' use of literary techniques.

The slides can be easily posted to Google Classroom™ for remote, distance, and digital learning.
