In this activity, students can work in partners, groups or independently to evaluate quotes said by people from the Enlightenment and the Great Awakening. Students will decide which movement the quotes might be from. This activity could be used to introduce the 2 movements, but it may have more impact by having students complete the quote evaluation chart after they've been introduced to the 2 movements and their missions.

The chart has 15 quotes from people like John Locke, Jacques Rousseau, Charles de Montesquieu, Ben Franklin, Voltaire, Jonathon Edwards and George Whitefield.

At the bottom of the chart of quotes are 3 reflection questions. The teacher can share the answer key so that students can reflect on how they did. The answer key is on the second spreadsheet tab at the bottom.
