Description
In this product, you will find seven pages of task cards (in both black and white and color) of effective essay hooks. This can be used for multiple activities in the classroom (with over 10 examples provided)!
When I first started teaching, one of the most difficult things for me in teaching writing was showing students how to write an effective hook. Everything I looked at seemed to have different information, and I had my students stuck in the elementary way of writing hooks: “Have you ever thought about (topic)? Well, let me tell you about it.” I needed help.
These ”Hook Your Readers” task cards are designed to accompany my “Hook Your Readers” Interactive Slideshow. In this slide deck, found on Google Classroom, students can click through interactive features that teach them about six different types of writing hooks and provide plenty of examples.
If you are utilizing my slide deck in the classroom or have your own amazing way of teaching about writing hooks, these additional task cards will help you. If using these activities independently of my other products, I have included in this document a single-page summary sheet of the 6 types of hooks students will utilize to complete these worksheets.
In this product, you will find:
- Anchor charts of six types of hooks (and examples)
- Seven Colored Slides of effective hooks
- Seven Black and White Slides of effective hooks
I prefer to use these task cards as a part of movement activities in the classroom. However, they are also great for partner work, games, and independent study. You could even use the cards for a Bell-Ringer or exit ticket.as a quick formative assessment. These task cards can be used in so many ways for engaging activities that check for student understanding.
