Welcome to, "The Core of Coaching!"
One of the ways I help coach teachers on how to improve instruction is by coaching through the components of Educator Effectiveness. A popular scoring tool is Charlotte Danielson's model. Whether you are already aware of or are new to the scoring process, it can be daunting.
One of the most difficult components my teachers and principals struggled with were the unobservable Domains of 1 and 4. It was recommended that teachers submit a lesson plan to demonstrate their knowledge as an effective educator. The problem teachers were having was knowing how much to submit and how to make their intentions clear while principals were struggling with the amount of time it took to extrapolate the information. Wanting to make sure my teachers were scoring well I created a format for them to use that outlined each of the components and made suggestions to demonstrate attributes of highly qualified teachers. My principals were extremely happy to see something so easy to score and the teachers appreciated the recommendations as well as the format which guaranteed they addressed each component effectively.
The document is comprised of an explanation, two pages of vocabulary and definition, a copy of the plan with suggestions and a blank copy of the plan for you to work in.
I hope you are able to find some comfort in the use of this document as well as the suggestions from a trained evaluator. It was designed to provoke thoughtful reflection that will ensure both you and your students success.
