What educators are saying

I definitely liked this resource over the resource that my district provided. It was thorough, my students were engaged, and they understood the content and examples. Thank you!!!
This was extremely helpful to me. Our series does not have great depth on the topic of test prep or writing so... I needed this!

Description

Do your students ever read an essay prompt and write something only vaguely related to it? Get them ready for state writing tests with this interactive digital lesson, which will walk them through a four-letter acronym that clears up the confusion. Each of the four sections in this lesson helps kids analyze a different aspect of prompts and includes interactive practice questions. Four assignment slides put it all together at the end to let you assess your students’ understanding. You can go through this lesson with your students on an interactive white board or assign it for them to complete on a device.

This resource includes:

  • A lesson explaining each of the four letters of the PUTS acronym, which students will use to analyze writing prompts. (26 slides)
  • Interactive practice after each letter is explained. Students will read a prompt and click the correct answer. (8 slides - 2 for each letter)
  • Feedback slides that tell students if they correct or give them another chance if they missed it. (2 slides)
  • Four prompts for students to analyze at the end of the lesson so that you can assess their progress. They'll type their answers into text boxes. (4 slides with 4 key slides).

If you'd like worksheets on analyzing prompts, anchor charts, and more tips from me on how to improve your kids' state test scores, check out the Analyzing Writing Prompts Bundle, that includes this resource at a discount. You'll also find it in the State Writing Test Prep Bundle along with lots of paired passages, graphic organizers, and writing prompts.
