Subjects Matter is a great book if you'd like for content area teachers to understand how teaching reading strategies truly benefits students learning their content. It takes a great approach to put content area teachers at ease and offers great, easy suggestions for immediate use. This is perfect for an ongoing PLC where groups are trying to learn new strategies.

Text Complexity is a great tool to learn about this component of reading. It provides the research and the background to fully understand Text Complexity as well as some strategies to do close reading.

Teaching Argument Writing is especially powerful for middle school teachers who have not taught argument writing and are looking for easily accessible lesson ideas to teach some pretty in-depth concepts to students.
