What educators are saying

My students really enjoyed this assignment. They loved the turkey emoji characters and were engaged throughout the assignment. I appreciated all of the options for writing and the rubrics were great. I will use some of the guides throughout the year, not just with this assignment.
My students enjoyed doing a persuasive writing to convince each other to eat/not eat the turkey based off of its emoji. Thank you for this activity!

Three Different Publishing Options

1. Emoji turkey with speech bubble attached

  • For this option, students choose a speech bubble with lines to publish their writing on. There are three different style speech bubbles and come with single spaced and 1.5 spaced lines. Students attach completed speech bubbles to the mouth of their colored turkey emoji.

2. Emoji turkey with lined emoji turkey template

  • For this option, students publish their writing on a turkey emoji with lines. Lined turkey emojis come with single spaced and 1.5 spaced lines. Once students are finished publishing, they color & cut their lined turkeys out and attach them behind their colored turkey emoji. Viewers will flip the emoji turkey up to read the writing behind.

3. Lined paper with black-and-white turkey emoji on left

  • For this option, students publish their writing on lined paper. Each piece of lined paper has a turkey emoji on the left for students to color once finished publishing. (There is a different sheet for each of the 20 turkey emojis). The lined paper is single spaced. This option is best for students writing a full 5-paragraph persuasive essay.
