Description

Use these argument writing prompts on Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive to give students practice writing justification, evidence, counterargument, and refutation. Each prompt starts with an engaging claim for adolescents, including topics on some of the following: electronics in class, the high school dropout age, employment restrictions for teens, college entrance exam requirements, public displays of affection, and ADHD medication prescriptions. There are 15 topics in total and a blank template that allows the teacher or students to write their own claims.

Excellent for differentiated instruction, these prompts can be used to prepare for essay writing or as formative assessment, bell-ringers, exit slips, small group work, or learning station activities. Instructions for using the prompts and a model key for one topic are provided in the resource.
