What educators are saying

I've used this resource to help students grasp the aspects of argumentative writing. We incorporate many of the activities into the interactive notebook I use with my students. They use those notes constantly as a reference to help them through the process.

    Description

Use these argument writing prompts on Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive to give students practice writing justifications, evidence, counterarguments, and refutation. Each prompt starts with an engaging claim for adolescents, including topics on some of the following: lowering the voting age, listening to music in class, self-driving cars, electronics in class, single-gender classes, tanning bed restrictions, minimum wage, and more. There are 60 topics and a blank template that allows the teacher or students to write their own claims.

Excellent for differentiated instruction, these prompts can be used to prepare for essay writing or as formative assessment, bell-ringers, exit slips, small group work, or learning station activities. Instructions for using the prompts and four pages of model responses are provided in the resource.

Not paperless yet? You can purchase the PRINT ONLY PDF file of the argument bell-ringers here (these use many of the same claims and topics):

Or, if you would prefer to buy the digital argument prompts separately, please find the prompts included in the resources below (if you have already purchased one of these, note that they will be duplicated in the bundle):
